Rattan in process
Research for Jewelry Collection
MANAVA, Cambodia
2020

From December 2019 to February 2020 I was a volunteer at MANAVA,
a social enterprise that supports female artisans by creating exclusive artisanal rattan products. MANAVA provides artisans with a sustainable income, empowers their creativity and offers them a safe working environment, where their views and opinions matter.

In order to accelerate the process of translating sketches and ideas into tangible experiments by the weavers, the first weeks I have investigated the technique from beginning til end.
Cleaning and preparing the materials, making the first connection and started weaving. After some trial and error, eventually I could make almost all experiments and tests myself. The moment that the directions were clear and important decisions of shape were made, I got to explain the designs to Baraing (the co-founder) and the weavers.
